I sent it back because it was that or my AxeFX Standard at the time and of course the Standard wins easily.īut yeah, a simple speaker upgrade could take that bugger to the next level for sure. But in a band or gig setting this would be completely unnoticeable and I believe Fender has released newer version of firmware to try and correct it as much as possible.Īt volume the amp didn't sound that great by itself to my ears, but I was contemplating dropping in an EVM12L or similar - I bet that would have tamed the tiny high end and rounded things out well. There was some pretty noticeable digital artifcats during note decay. I was able to dial in some convincing clean tones (Fender) and the best tone I got going was the AC30. Great little practice amp for couch jamming when I don't want to go down into my studio. But, I tell you what: for $299, I think it's a damn steal. Also came with a two button foot switch that is programmable. It's got USB, plus some software (I think there's a version of Amplitube in there, haven't dug through all of that yet), and a headphone jack. The amp models even have power amp parameters, like Sag and Bias. ![]() I've been having a blast with the Fender stuff. The high gain presets don't sound that great, but I haven't fussed with trying to dial in a high gain tone on my own yet. Especially when I got it home, and plugged my Am Std. It's a SS modeling amp, and the Fender models sound really, really good to me. I ended up walking out of the store with the PRS and the Mustang III. I was really impressed with how this little amp sounded! I plugged it into the nearest amp to give it a spin, which was this little Fender Mustang III combo. So, I had a store credit at a local guitar shop, and I went in to look at a used PRS Paul Allender SE guitar that I had my eye on. ![]()
